CLGF Webinar - Women in Local Government - Can Mentoring Make a Difference - 29 July 2021
CLGF & PLATFORMA are in the process of producing a paper on “Mentoring for Women’s Political Advancement and Leadership” which draws from an overview of mentoring programmes working to support women and girls in local government. The review looked at a set of different mentoring programmes operating at the National, State/Provincial and local level in seven countries/region around the world. The paper provides a snap shot view into how these different programmes were set up, what they do, how they operative, and some of their key achievements. The paper looks to draw out a common set of principles and enabling factors that underpin success in these programmes so as to provide guidance for the development of mentoring programmes more widely. The webinar aims to present key lessons and experiences from across a range of programmes and share the learning and experience both of organisers and participants in mentoring, with the aim of identifying ways forward to increase and reinforce mentoring as a go to methodology to support elected women leaders. The session will be hosted by the Commonwealth Women in Local Government Network (ComWLG) and is being delivered as a CLGF-PLATFORMA partnership on the project “Working together towards empowering local and regional governments for enhanced governance and more effective development outcomes in EU partner countries” supported by the EU 2019-2021.

Peacebuilding and the Commonwealth
We spoke to Myn Garcia, Deputy Director General of the Commonwealth Foundation about the the peacebuilding process. We discussed how the work of the Foundation promotes civil society engagement in this process. The Commonwealth’s Foundation's theme for 2017 is 'a peace-building Commonwealth'. The Commonwealth Foundation is a development organisation with an international remit and reach, uniquely situated at the interface between government and civil society. It develops the capacity of civil society to act together and learn from each other to engage with the institutions that shape people’s lives.
